On Saturday (Sept. 9), A Tribe Called Quest played their last show ever after performing in Wareham, England at the Besitval music festival.

In the middle a performance “Whateva Will Be,” Q-Tip stopped the song and told the crowd, “A Tribe Called Quest, we suffered a blow. We lost our boy Phife Dawg. This is gonna be our last show as A Tribe Called Quest, ever,” NME reports.

The rapper then went on to quote Phife Dawg, saying, “Say am I ‘posed to be dead or doin’ life in prison?/Just another dummy caught up in the system/Unruly hooligan who belongs in Spford/Verse getting that degree at Stanford or Harvard.”

The Tribe ended their main set with “Buggin Out,” “Electric Relaxation” and “Check the Rhime,” before Q-Tip left the stage and told the crowd, “27 years, thanks for all the support you’ve given us over the years. Phife Dawg!”

The group has discussed ending before. During a 2016 interview with Billboard, when asked what was next, Q-Tip said, “This is our last record.” He added, “We’ll probably do a world tour. After that, that’s it, for the rest our lives.”

In 2016, the group released We Got It from Here… Thank You 4 Your Service, their first album since 1998’s The Love Movement. Just eight month’s before the album’s release, the group lost Phife Dawg after he passed away from complications relating to diabetes. He was 45 years old.
