Keyshia Cole has endured bad relationships and no-good men during her career and it has been a source for her songwriting in the 2000s. Despite her past relationship problems, she has alway persevered and maintained her dignity. Today (Oct. 15), the R&B singer celebrates her 36th birthday.
For whatever reason, Cole rarely found a relationship that inspired a positive single. She debuted in 2005 with the Kanye West-produced “I Changed My Mind,” which was an anthem for fed-up ladies. It was a cathartic song at its core, but it wasn’t quite cathartic enough for the singer not to strike back right after with a song called “I Should Have Cheated.” Many her devoted fans agreed with the sentiment
What’s impressive about Cole is how she always found new ways to express heartache. She could rage and she could be therapeutic, like in her celebratory collaborative track “Let It Go” featuring Missy Elliott and Lil’ Kim. Whichever way she did it, Cole sold records. Her first three albums all went platinum.
After filing for divorce from her now ex-husband Daniel “Booby” Gibson, the Love & Hip Hop Hollywood star has pushed the reset button on her life. In addition, the Grammy-nominated singer will return to the R&B game with her new album 11:11 Reset on Oct. 20.
“For the past year, I’ve been seeing 11:11 constantly and to my understanding, you’re aligned spiritually with your destiny and everything that is meant to be in your life is happening at the right time,” she said about the album’s title. “The timing is right. Everything is right. Reset is definitely cohesive with that.”
Happy 36th birthday, Keyshia Cole!
